=== Cordero placed on disabled list ===

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Washington Nationals have placed first
baseman Wil Cordero on the 15-day disabled list because of a left knee injury.

Cordero was hurt during Thursday's game against Philadelphia and is expected
to undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the problem, but it will
likely be serious enough to keep him sidelined for awhile.

The 33-year-old veteran was 0-for-2 before leaving the contest and is hitless
 in four at-bats this season.

This is Cordero's third stint with the Washington/Montreal franchise. He was
an All-Star with the Expos in 1994.

The Nationals are expected to fill the roster spot Friday by purchasing the
contract of three-time All-Star Carlos Baerga, who was assigned to the minors
last week after signing with the club in February.

Baerga batted .235 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 79 games for Arizona in
 2004. The 36-year-old is a .292 hitter with 132 home runs and 755 RBI in 1,537
games. He has played for Cleveland, New York (NL), San Diego, Boston and
 Arizona over his 13-year career.
